Electrical Panel Upgrade & Replacement in Shreveport & Bossier City

Safer power. Room for what your home needs next. Most upgrades finished in one day.

Your electrical panel (also called a breaker box) is the heart of your home’s electrical system. When it’s old, overloaded, or failing, you get tripping breakers, flickering lights, and in the worst cases, a real fire risk. LenAire’s licensed electricians replace and upgrade panels for homeowners across Shreveport, Bossier City, and the surrounding area. We handle the permit and the final inspection, so you don’t have to.

Signs You May Need a New Electrical Panel

A panel rarely fails without warning. Watch for these:

  • Breakers that trip often or won’t reset after you switch them off
  • Lights that dim or flicker when a large appliance turns on
  • A panel that feels warm to the touch, or shows rust or corrosion
  • A fuse box instead of a circuit breaker panel
  • No open slots for new circuits, or breakers doubled up to make room
  • A burning smell or buzzing near the panel (turn off what you can and call us right away)

If you notice any of these, don’t wait. Hot or damaged panels can be an electrical fire hazard.

Planning to Add an EV Charger or Generator? Check Your Panel First

Many homeowners find out they need an upgrade when they add something new. Your panel may need more capacity if you’re:

  • Installing an EV charger
  • Replacing your AC or heating system with a heat pump or a larger system
  • Adding a room, garage, workshop, or hot tub
  • Installing an electric range, dryer, or tankless water heater
  • Preparing to sell, or responding to a home inspection or insurance requirement

Some insurers also hesitate to cover or renew homes with fuse boxes or certain older panel brands, such as Federal Pacific and Zinsco, which have documented breaker problems.

Not Sure You Need One? We'll Tell You Straight.

Not every home needs a new panel. During your evaluation, we check your panel’s condition and calculate your home’s actual electrical load. If a smaller fix will do the job, we’ll tell you. If an upgrade is the right call, we’ll show you why.

Panel Upgrade vs. Panel Replacement: What's the Difference?

  • Panel replacement swaps an old or unsafe panel for a new one of similar size. It fixes safety and reliability problems.
  • Panel upgrade increases your home’s capacity, commonly from 100 amps to 200 amps, so you can run more at once.
  • Service upgrade is a bigger job that may also involve the meter, mast, and utility connection.

What to Expect

  1. Evaluation. We inspect your panel and wiring and review what you plan to add.
  2. Clear quote. You get a written price and scope before any work begins.
  3. Permit and scheduling. We pull the permit and coordinate with the utility when needed.
  4. Installation. Most panel upgrades in the Shreveport area take one day. Power is off for part of that day, and we’ll tell you how long ahead of time.
  5. Inspection and cleanup. We take care of the final inspection and leave your work area clean.

How Much Does a Panel Upgrade Cost?

Cost depends on your home’s current setup, the size of the new panel, the condition of existing wiring, and whether the utility needs to make changes. After a quick evaluation, we’ll give you a firm quote with no surprises. Ask us about financing options.

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade or replacement?

Frequent tripping breakers, flickering or dimming lights, a warm or rusty panel, or a fuse box are all warning signs. Adding a big electrical load like an EV charger or heat pump can also be a reason it’s time for an upgrade. An electrician can confirm with a quick evaluation.

Will my power be off during the upgrade?

Yes, for part of the day while the old panel is swapped for the new one. We’ll tell you the expected timeline beforehand so you can plan around it.

Do I need a permit?

Yes, panel work requires a permit and inspection. We handle all of it for you.

Is a 100-amp panel still safe?

A 100-amp panel in good condition can be fine for a home with modest electrical needs. But if you’re adding an EV charger, heat pump, or other large loads, you may need 200 amps. We’ll check your actual load before recommending anything.

Can I keep my fuse box?

It may still work, but fuse boxes are outdated, offer limited capacity, and can make it harder to get homeowners insurance. Most homeowners are better off replacing them with a modern breaker panel.

Can I replace just one breaker instead of the whole panel?

Sometimes. A single faulty breaker can be replaced on its own. But if your breakers keep tripping, the panel is old, or it’s an unsafe brand, replacing the panel is usually the safer fix. We’ll tell you which makes sense.

Will a new panel lower my electric bill?

Not directly. A new panel doesn’t reduce how much power you use. What it does is make your system safer and give you the capacity to add things like EV chargers or heat pumps.

Do you offer emergency service?

Yes. If you smell burning, see sparks, or have a panel that’s hot to the touch, call us right away. See our emergency electrical repair page.
